GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
- To assist customers in the proper application of BTM standard products through correct sizing based on the customer’s performance requirements relative to the capabilities of the BTM product. The Application Engineer may also recommend the development of variations of existing products or new products.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Listen to the customer’s requirements and gather all necessary information required to correctly apply the proper standard product.
- Know the capabilities of the standard products and determine if a standard product will meet the customer’s expectations or suggest a modified standard product or a new product.
- Provide a sketch to the customer and/or work with the engineering department to supply necessary drawings to the customer
- Estimate the cost of a nonstandard solution and provide a quote first verbally then written if requested by the customer.
- Document all customer inquiries noting the general description and price provided.
- Upon receipt of a P.O. communicate with the engineering department to generate the necessary drawings and engineering master(s) for production of the customer order.
- Review all engineering documents to ensure proper production of the customer’s order.
- Project manage any special or modified product orders as required.
- Process customer service issues by fact finding to determine the root cause of the problem.
- Perform service trips to the customer’s site as required.
- Do product evaluations either in house or on site to identify root cause.
- Upon root cause identification determine either a warranty or service plan to quickly restore the customer to production.
- Issue Return Material Authorization (RMA) numbers to customers.
- Enter orders into the ERP system.
- Prepare all shipping paperwork and arrange for transportation of shipments.
- Invoice customers when required.
- Perform other duties and tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least two (2) years Product Development experience.
- Two (2) years Manufacturing Engineering experience.
- Possess a broad understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic devices used in automated assembly equipment.
- Ability to read and comprehend customer specifications and drawings.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations.
- Above average verbal and writing skills for internal and customer communication
- Good people and telephone skills as they relate to excellent customer service.
- Ability to generate coherent test procedures and reports.
- Computer literate.
- Must be able to travel by common and economical modes of transportation.
- Proficiency in use of hand tools and capable of product assembly.
- Must be able to sit at least 90% of the day.
- Must be able to stand at least 90% of the day.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
EDUCATION:
- Associate degree or completed apprenticeship in a design or manufacturing related field.
